A Little Good News For One Of My Photographs

My photograph was featured on the Crated homepage!

I haven’t been blogging lately due to the continued issues with my hands and arms, and have been feeling a bit disheartened about the challenges in creating and promoting my photography and art (as well as struggling to get through the rest of my life). I try to stay positive and look at my situation with humor, but some days I am not as successful at it as I’d like to be. Therefore, it was an extra special kind of awesome to find an email from Crated, notifying me that ‘Ghost Boats In Morro Bay’ has been featured on their homepage. Click here to view a previous blog post about this photograph. I am still trying to keep typing at a minimum for now, but wanted to post this bit of good news. I hope to be back to blogging on a much more regular basis again soon!

Abstract Flower Swirl Art – Exploring Flowers and Photography Through Painting

Abstract Flower Swirl Art – Exploring Flowers, Pain and Photography Through Painting

Priya Ghose Photography

Abstract Flower Art

A vibrant ink painting depicting swirling red and purple flowers atop stems of green, blue and teal.

While I currently see myself as primarily a photographer, I have begun to explore my artistic roots again. You can read more about the reasons behind this exploration here.

I must admit I’ve really overdone it lately, and my body is complaining loudly and quite persistently. At a time when each press of a key on my keyboard makes me wince, I wanted to post this bold and vivid explosion of color and movement. Not only is it a celebration of the possibility of alternate forms of creativity, it also features one of my favorite photographic subjects – the flower.

As an avid gardener, taking pictures of flowers is what initially led me into the amazing world of photography. Therefore, this alcohol ink painting is a reminder of two of my greatest…

A Water Lily Dream – Photographing My Way To A New Perspective

Expressing my love for photography…

Priya Ghose Photography

Waterlily Photograph

Blue tropical water lily petals emerge, beautifully dreamy in their softness.

Sometimes life gets too complicated and becomes overwhelming. It just does. Sometimes bad things happen. They just do. At times like these I know I need to slow down and take a moment to view the world in a different way. All too often we are caught in an endless stream of work, stress, and obligation, and we forget to “stop and smell the roses” as it were…instead we are too busy whizzing by them to notice their silky perfumed petals, jagged leaves, and prominent thorns.

Photography has become my way to stop and view my surroundings from a different perspective. I pause, find what interests me, and compose an image. My mind slows and then fills with color, pattern, and composition, instead of the stress of the day. My focus becomes narrowed to something as simple as the…

Birds In Flight Over Water – Art At Midnight

Dreamy art, created when I should have been dreaming…

Priya Ghose Photography

Birds In Flight Art

A flock of seabirds soars overhead, gliding on salty ocean breezes. Turquoise waves crash below, throwing mist high up into the unsettled air.

I’ve already established in a previous blog post that I am not the best sleeper out there. I’ve done my fair share of watching infomercials about all sorts of nifty kitchen gadgets, as well as an incredibly wide assortment of beauty products. However, many nights I’d rather do something creative while the house and neighborhood is silent and everyone sleeps. Traditional photo editing just doesn’t appeal to me at 2 AM; I see things differently somehow, and I’d rather step outside of my comfort zone and delve into the unknown. I created this image in the wee hours yesterday morning, incorporating my love for the color turquoise, birds, and the ocean into a dreamy, misty piece of flight and fantasy.

Painting Deep Into The Blue

Exploring alcohol ink painting…

Deep Into The Blue

Deep in the mysterious blues of ocean currents, jellyfish float through secret existences. An abstract alcohol ink painting on yupo paper.

I’ve spent the past couple of years struggling to hold my camera due to issues with my hands and arms. I was accustomed to living a life full of my pure love for photography – handholding 300mm lenses while stalking herons, keeping my body still in awkward positions for long periods of time to try and fulfill my vision for a photograph, planning trips and schedules around what, where, and when to photograph. I became incredibly frustrated, going through periods where I wasn’t able to photograph at all, and other times I had pain-filled outings that were struggles, no longer moments of joy. While I’ve never studied photography formally in a classroom setting (I’ve spent hours pouring over books and online lessons and experimenting with different techniques), I did…

A Gulf Fritillary Butterfly Sits On My Finger…

A Gulf Fritillary Butterfly Sits On My Finger...

A Gulf Fritillary Butterfly (Agraulis vanillae), newly emerged from its chrysalis, sits on my finger before taking its first flight.

I’ve written a bit about the life cycle of the gulf frittilary butterfly here but just wanted to share another photo of one of these cuties, lightly tickling my finger. There are currently many female gulf frittilary butterflies flying about the garden, looking to lay their eggs. They are so intent on their purpose that they completely ignore me as I come up close; I watch them lay eggs on passionflower vine leaves, tendrils, and even flowers.

Pssst…I’ve Got a S.E.C.R.E.T.

Well said, and as always I love those gorgeous blue works of yours!

Abstract Art by Sharon Cummings

The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.
Albert Einstein

Every few days I open an email from another artist asking me “how did you do that?”  They want to know my techniques, my materials and…if I am not too busy…some personal instruction.  I have never felt an obligation to share my secrets with others.  To me the joy and fun of creating is to explore…try unusual things….find your art. Copying may be the greatest form of flattery, but somehow I never feel flattered when I see someone attempting to duplicate my work.  It’s almost like seeing your husband with another woman.  I feel violated.  I developed my styles the hard way….by trial and error.  I have spent many years marketing myself and building a strong following.  My work is branded well and people recognize it as mine.  So if you want to know my secret…it’s…
